Day 13 - Georgetown, NC to Charleston, NC

I spent hours yesterday getting caught up on blog posts. I wrote the entire post for Day 13 and went to publish it and the post failed. Now I need to write it all over again. It is the ongoing saga with my posts.
Today was a short trip. It is only 58 miles. We slept a little later today and left at 8:15. We had a gorgeous ride. The scenery was very pristine and full of nature. It is marsh as far as the eye can see. The marshes look like fall with all the brown tones but they are so alive with birds and butterflies. It is amazing. I am sure there is so much more going on that we can’t see. The water was like glass again today. We saw endless amounts of dolphin today. It was some of the prettiest landscape yet.
We plan to stay in Charleston for two days to visit with our friends, Kim and Miles. Kim and I were roommates back in the late 80s in Portland, ME. Kim met us at the dock when we stopped for fuel. We got our slip. We are staying at a Safe Harbor marina where we get 12 free nights. We have managed to use only one free night because every time we try to use our free nights it falls on a blackout date. The blackout dates in Charleston are October 1st-Dec 1st. We just can’t catch a break. Kim, Doug, and I went to lunch at the marina and then Kim and I were going to get supplies and Doug was going to try to repair the scooters. Kim and I got groceries, went to West Marine, and we might have stopped at Krispy Kreme for a few donuts. When we got back to the boat Kim’s husband, Miles, was there with her Dad, Larry. Miles was helping Doug try to fix the scooters and Larry was supervising. Let’s just say after over an hour, when they turned the scooter on the horn wouldn’t shut off. The scooter went back in the bag and back in the hold. Next they tried to repair the middle windshield wiper that died. Couldn’t fix that either because the screw was stripped. Miles and Doug were 0 for 2 on repairs. The effort was greatly appreciated though!

We all went for a driving tour of Charleston and then to dinner. Doug had his first raw oysters thanks to Kim. Dinner was great and the company even better.
We traveled 58 miles today in just under four hours. We will stay here in Charleston tomorrow and then hit the high seas on Friday.
