Trips

Here are a few of our past trips over the previous two years

Portland Head Light

Portland Head Light

We purchased Island Girl in June 2017. We had looked for a Tiara for several months. We finally decided on one that was in Chester, Nova Scotia. We made an offer sight unseen; other than the pictures from the broker. We flew to Nova Scotia to look her over and do a sea trial. The boat was named, Gail Force, so some of the pictures from the first season will show the old name. Gail Force was originally ordered for an owner in Michigan who had her just one season. She was then sold to the current owner in Nova Scotia. Gail Force/Island GIrl II is a 2006 Tiara with low hours and in great shape. Now we had to decide how to get the boat from Nova Scotia to Rhode Island. We settled on the owner delivering her to Portland, Maine and we would pick her up there. The window for the weather opened up and they made the trip from Chester, Nova Scotia to Portland, ME. We drove to Maine to pick her up. The boat was docked at DiMillo’s in Portland. They got in around 6 PM to Portland. Their total trip from Chester ,Nova Scotia (with a refueling stop in Cape Sable) and then on to Maine took a total of hrs. The owner notified customs and the boat was boarded. As the new owners we had to fill out paperwork the following day. Once the paperwork was filed we were free to leave Portland. Doug, our son, Derek , and nephew, Nolan, left DiMillo’s at 10 AM. On the way home the GPS cut out so it was old school navigation with charts and a compass. The trip through the Cape Cod Canal was slow with the tide running against them but they still managed to reach Barrington, RI by 6PM. The total distance from Portland to Barrington was 187 nautical miles. The boat ran great but the learning curve began.

Block Island, RI

Block Island is a 24 mile trip from our marina in Barrington, RI. We make several weekend treks to Block Island and in July we have a large raft in New Harbor for about 10 days.

New York City, NY

After a long 4th of July weekend at Block Island we departed for our trip along Long Island Sound and into New York City. Our first day we traveled from Block Island to Glen Cove, New York. It was 101.34 nautical miles. We spent two days at the Safe Harbor Marina in Glen Cove and then headed to New York City. The weather was perfect with light winds and a gorgeous sunny day. It is a short trip to New York City. We went up as close to the statue of Liberty as we were allowed. After a few pictures we decided to head back up along Long Island Sound to Greenport, NY. Again we stayed at a Safe Harbour Marina in Greenport. We had some work done by the marina there and Doug managed to throw out his back so we stuck close to the marina and relaxed aboard the boat. We did venture into town to see the sights. We left Greenport and headed back to Block Island for our 10 days of fun in the sun with several boats from our marina in Barrington.
