Day 16 - Hilton Head, SC to Brunswick Landing

Today we didn’t leave until 8:15. We wanted to make sure we hit some shallow areas at the high tide. The first part of the trip was very slow going. We slow down for fisherman, boats tied to docks, and no wake zones. It was just a continuous start and slow down kind of day. We were in Georgia and we had slowed down for boats tied to a dock. Our boat at idle speed leaves a wake. The only way to avoid it is to pop it in and out of gear or to run with one engine. I have the binoculars so I am constantly telling Doug if there are fisherman, if the boats are floating at the dock instead of up on lifts, and if there are no wake buoys. We were going idle speed. I was looking through the binoculars at a boat coming down on us. I told him it looked like a tow boat…nope it was a game warden. Actually there were three game wardens on this small boat. We got blue lighted. Great now what?! Our idle speed was not leaving a small enough wake. Doug tried to explain that he was going idle speed. It didn’t matter. We just got a verbal warning. As we are pulling away on one engine in gear, not one but two, speed boats go flying past us and the game warden and they didn’t get stopped. Oh well.

Once we got out a ways we got out of the no wake area and were able to power up. Most of the ride was fairly quick after that. We traveled 106 miles today in 6 hours and 15 minutes. It is sunny today and 82 here in Brunswick. While the temps have been warm the humidity has been low so it is pretty comfortable. I took advantage of the good wi-fi today and sat down and wrote this early. When we get back from dinner I will try to upload some pictures.

Tomorrow we will head to St. Augustine, FL. As Kim pointed out it is the oldest city in the US. Doug argued that point but Siri confirmed it, much to his dismay. Yay Kim!! We are hoping to be in Fort Pierce by Tuesday. Considering we lost 3 days due to the high winds in NJ we have done pretty well staying on schedule.
