Day 11 - Beaufort, NC to Southport, NC
I think I hit a wall today. I am a homebody. Okay, I will admit it. I am a great traveler for 7 days, I am a good traveler for 10 days, after that please keep clear. LOL We got to St. James in Southport, NC. It was dead low tide and we were churning up the bottom as we pulled into the marina. We had to wait 45 mins in the hot sun waiting to get fuel. We finally got our fuel and moved to our slip. We went to the office to check in. There are no amenities to speak of. No wifi, the restaurant on site burned down two years ago and they haven’t replaced it. We would have to go into town for dinner. If our scooters weren’t broken it would have been no big deal. We searched Uber but couldn’t get a ride. I was done. I went back to the boat, made lunch, and then like a cranky two year old took a 3 hour nap! I woke up in a much better state of mind. We ate dinner on the boat and planned our trip for tomorrow. We could run one really long day to get to Charleston or split it up into two shorter days. We debated whether to stay on the ICW or bump out and go offshore. We opted for the shorter days and to stay on the ICW
Today’s scenery was mostly homes (some extremely large and others just shacks)along the ICW. There were a lot of places we had to slow down while passing boats, marinas, fisherman, and no wake zones. It was a day with a lot of shallow areas so we had to really pay attention.
The weather warmed up today to the high 60’s but it was 54 when we first got up. We traveled for about 100 miles and it took us almost 7 hours.
