Day 1 - 2024 Trip Barrington RI - New York City
October 2, 2024
We left the dock at 8:40 AM to start our second trip to Florida. The weather was sunny with light winds. Seas were forecast to be 3-4 feet with chop. Our goal was to make it to New York City but as always we had a bailout plan if things got too rough. The ride was great until Whale Rock where it always seems to get rough. We hit rollers with chop on the port side bow. Once we made the turn off of Point Judith it made the ride more comfortable. It was a little choppy going through the Race but once in Long Island Sound the land knocked down the rollers and we had a great ride. The East River coming into New York City is always choppy with boat wakes, but today it was just plain choppy. We were headed to Liberty Landing on the New Jersey side. The slips are always tight in there, but we managed to get tied up. Our ride was just under 6 hours (5 Hours and 50 minutes to be exact). We went 153.14 nautical miles, used 271.08 gallons of diesel and refueled at the lovely price of $4.05/gallon. Thank you New Jersey. We hope to leave here tomorrow and head to Cape May, NJ. We will listen to the weather forecast in a little while and formulate a plan. Great first day.
